German TV channel supports Ricky Martin Foundation Organization initiates project in Loíza
(June 2009) – The notable German TV channel RTL selected the Ricky Martin Foundation as one of the beneficiaries of the donations from their traditional annual telethon. The event is hosted by Wolfram Kos, a driving force in German television, and is taking place 24-hours non-stop from November 19 to 20.
The telethon will support four European organizations and one international organization. This support enables the Ricky Martin Foundation to implement the first phase of a social project for the development and well-being of children in Loíza.
“The chance offered to us by RTL to start building the center is just the first step the foundation is taking with our partners to provide our children and their families not only with a promising future but also with a complete education. It is our aim to provide an alternative education, primary health care and prosperity for many children and adolescents at risk, to which everyone is entitled”, Martin commented in today’s press release.
The first building phase for the center will most probably commence in the first quarter of 2010, as soon as RTL’s donations arrive. The property ceded for this purpose by the municipality of Loíza measures 2, 700 m² and is located in Cuevas Sector. The basic investment for the building will sum up to $ 1.5 million and will be increased by a wide variety of efforts made to gain further donations.
The center will have capacity for approximately one hundred children and adolescents and it will comprise 10 classrooms – playschool, primary school and secondary school – as well as a library and recreational areas to promote performing arts, sports and cultural activities.
“I would like to thank Mayor Eddie Manso and the First Lady of Loíza, Lymarie Escobar, for their exceptional cooperation. Furthermore the commitment of Puerto Rico’s First Lady Lucé Vela, Nuestra Escuela, Iniciativa Comunitaria, Ser de Puerto Rico and Taller Comunitario de la Escuela de Arquitectura de la Universidad de Puerto Rico”, added the artist whose foundation coordinates the development of the programs in cooperation with the respective collaborating organizations and a committee of municipal leaders, that still has to be appointed.
The center will offer part of its services at the facilities of Nuestra Escuela in Loíza around September.
